The
'Josselin Society'
was formed in England in February 1991 with the following objectives:-
To foster association between persons who have, or whose relatives have a surname
Joslin, Josling, Josselin, Jocelyn,
Josceline, Joscelyne, Joselyn, Joslyn or similar.
To promote the study of, and research into, the origins and history of those
names,
to encourage meetings and correspondence between such persons for social purposes
And for the exchange
of information.
To collect and collate the results of study and research and publish it among
members.
To Publish newsletters and other communications to further these objects
ORGANISATION
Officers and Committee are elected at the Annual General Meeting
(normally in September / October)
and comprise :
Chairman, Vice-chairman,
Secretary, Treasurer (who is also Membership Secretary at present),
and six other members
all serving in an honorary capacity.
The Committee may appoint a President and
other persons e.g. Journal Editor, Journal Designer
Annual accounts are prepared
and audited by an Auditor appointed
at the AGM
And a subscription fixed for the
year which runs from 1st. September.
Any Newsletter or Journal is to be included
within the subscription.

PAST
JOSSELIN GROUP EVENTS
Gatherings have been held at: Bury St. Edmunds, Braintree, Stanstead Abbotts,
Brooklands,
Leigh on Sea, Althorp, Sulgrave, Horndon
on the Hill, Bishops Stortford, Hyde Hall, Exeter,
Sawbridgeworth, Maldon, Ely, Essex Record Office Chelmsford,
Hemingford Grey
and two visits to Chateau Josselin in Brittany.
To
celebrate the Millennium we held a Josselin 2000 Weekend in the Essex area with
events over 3 days,
it included a dinner, a church crawl at Terling, White Notley
and Cressing Churches
and a family history
workshop
and garden party at Langham near Colchester..
A Josselin gathering was held on 21st-23rd June
2002
at Alnwick Castle
and Warkworth Castle in Northumberland.
The
AGM 2002 was held on Saturday the 12th of October at
Sawbridgeworth
Hertfordshire.
Included in the days activities was a Guided tour with Derrick
Thomas of Great
St. Mary's Church
in Sawbridgeworth.
Derrick
was able to show us all the Jocelin, Hyde and Roden memorials and explained
the
history of our families
connection to Sawbridgeworth and Hyde Hall from 1248
when Thomas Jocelin married Maud Hide.

and the chance to do a brass rubbing of
our Jocelin ancestors.

Summer 2003 meetings were held at Great and Little Horkesley
& Cressing Temple
Essex.
2004 saw a Josselin event at Ponteland, Northumberland.
Stoke on Trent was a Spring meeting with a
visit to the Wedgwood factory.
Audley End near Saffron Walden was a summer meeting.
Bocking Mill and
Braintree Museum for our AGM.
Only two events were arranged for 2005; Chartwell House
the former home of Sir Winston Churchill,
and the Cold War bunker at Kelvedon Hatch
Nr. Brentwood was our venue for the 2005 AGM
2006 saw a very successful summer weekend based at Kentwell, Long Melford
& Lavenham in Suffolk
Our AGM was held at Earls Colne in Essex the former Parish of Rev. Ralph
Josselin.
in 2007 our summer weekend was held at Lincoln and Sempringham and
our AGM was back at Braintree
2008 was the turn of Queens College Cambridge and Duxford
Imperial War Museum to host the Josselin's.
2008 AGM was in the ancient Parish of Bocking including the Church of St. Mary
and
Family History Presentations

This is normally published three times a year together with occasional newsletters.
The Membership list is
updated and published annually.

2. A Membership List- currently we have about 100 paid up members worldwide and
addresses and telephone & e-mail numbers are included.
It is an understanding
of membership that the Society may hold such details in a computer database
and
distribute it to members, but only for 'Josselin Society' purposes.
3.
A Josselin car "sticker" and bookmark.
4. A form giving the member the opportunity of publicising in the Josselin
Journal the lines of research
he or she
is pursuing
and fields in which the
member is knowledgeable,
and also requests for specific information

members unless advised to the
contrary.
A form requesting members to lodge an
autobiographical note with the Society is also included
along
with pro-forma
applications for the Josselin Reference Manual
and other items that may be
available form time to time.

JOSSELIN PEDIGREE CHARTS
In 1984 a set of four 'Josselin' pedigree charts were produced
by William Frederick (Bill) Joscelyne
and the late Arthur William Joscelyne of Leigh-on-Sea, the charts were
redrawn in 1996 by:
C W (Wayne) Joslin in Canada and are available for members to
purchase as a set of four A3 sheets..
Chart 1 Covers the period 400BC - 1200AD in Europe
Chart 2 Covers the period 1100AD - 1800AD in England
Chart 3 Covers the period 1500AD - 1900AD in England
Chart 4 Covers maps of Europe in 741, Charlemagne 814, 10th Century
France and 'First Crusade' 1097
All the charts are in black and white and are available only for members by post from :-
