Are the two major players in providing genealogists with affordable DNA data to
help in their family history research,
I used the American company FamilyTreeDNA
for my Y25 markers in 2003 and as the prices are quoted in dollars;
it's now a
good time to have yours done. (March 2004 £1 = $1.85)
Your markers are kept confidential, but you
have the opportunity to check your data at any time
with other people in the
massive database for matches to yours.
My experience was as follows: I studied
the FamilyTreeDNA web site on-line and decided on 25 markers,
I paid on-line by
credit card as the firm is based in Houston, Texas, USA.
About a week later a
packet arrived with two small phials and two plastic spatulas and after studying
the simple instructions I swabbed inside my cheek and it went back to
Houston,
about four weeks later I was able to access my initial results on a
pass-word protected web link
quoting my unique test kit number.
I later received
my full Y25 marker details on an impressive certificate.

please study all the information
that is available on the above websites
and see what other one name studies are

The following is a
quote from the Family Tree DNA website March 2004 ... NEWS: Family Tree DNA hits new milestones:
2/18/04
-
Ysearch, the
largest worldwide public Y-DNA database with the most extensive number
of markers
reaches 2,500 distinct haplotypes.
12/15/03
- Family Tree DNA launches the world's tightest test for genealogy purposes:
the
Y-DNA 37-marker
test!
Have you hit a brick wall?
Can't find any documents for
that elusive ancestor?
Can't find your ancestor's
homeland?
Wondering if you are related
to another family with the same surname?
Genealogy by genetics is the greatest addition to Genealogy
since
the creation of the Family Tree!
The
value of Family Tree DNA testing is our ability to help find "Genetic Cousins ™"
by comparing the results of as few as two people.
Males are able to see if another male is a descendant from their direct
paternal line.
Our 12 marker Y-DNA test has become the world standard.
Our 37-marker test yields the world's tightest parameters to the Most Recent
Common Ancestor (MRCA).
You may order the 12 marker test and return to "refine"
your test at a later time without the need to re-submit another DNA sample!
Women can determine which Haplogroup they are part of based upon the
descent through their maternal line.
Reports are compared to the Cambridge
Reference Sequence,
which show your deviation from this industry standard. We
identify the lettered Haplogroup that.
If you need more details of this exciting development in Genealogy email me or
ask questions on the FamilyTreeDNA site and I also have a very good VHS video on
the subject.
