The following letter was sent out in July 2002 to 85 people who had expressed an
interest
in the surname of
GOSLIN or GOSLING etc.
over the last few years.
I have
received a good, and positive reply so far,
When the overseas letters have been
received, we will then,
debate the plan for the future GOSLING group.

Hello
to all
Researchers of the Surname GOSLING and all its variant spellings Worldwide.
I start by telling you that I have no known GOSLING relation in my family tree,
What I do know,
is that since the time that surnames became the norm, the name
of JOSLIN and GOSLIN etc. have, on occasions,
been confused with each other.
We in the JOSLIN family have a very good family history society to help one
another;
I have a personal database of all the UK JOSLIN by all spellings and
with some pedigrees going back to 1000 AD.
Many of my contacts are in overseas
countries such as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Canada, USA and South
America.
Along with Carol Scott from Colchester, England and a few other GOSLING
researches
we feel that a central database for our surname records is needed and
is long overdue.
We would like to form a GOSLING one name group, with this in mind,
I am
contacting as many GOSLIN researches as I can locate,
I have found your name
through your request for GOSLIN help in the GRD 2002 and the BIGR 2000
and Carol Scott’s contacts,
I hope you may be able to help me get the idea
off the ground.
I am sure that amongst the 80 people I am contacting with this
letter, we will find a good Secretary, Membership Secretary,
Treasurer, Database
Administrator, Web Master, etc.
If we do get a One Name group going and we feel
the need to place adverts in ‘Family Tree Magazine’, SOG, Goon’s,
the GRD etc
and of course Air Mail to GOSLINGS abroad, then the question of funding will
have to be addressed,
even the cost of a small web site will need to be covered.
I do belong to other one name groups and the annual subscriptions are under £10 UKP.
I will be covering the cost of this initial mail shot.
The Internet is a great help to us all and I can immediately put most of my
GOSLING records (about 20.000)
on to a GOSLING web site if it is thought that
this is the way to go.
I would prefer to put people in touch with each other
rather than to doing research for them.
What type of records would you want to see?
I would like your ideas and help with the project.
I am attaching a list of all
the GOSLING researches that this letter is being sent to, please check it,
and
repost it to any other GOSLING family member that you think may be interested in
joining us
and we will see how the project develops.
If you are not interested in the project, just let me know, and we will
not contact you again.
If you are interested please let me know how you
may be able to contribute.
Thank you, this could be the start of something big for GOSLINGS worldwide.
