Where do I get my copies of
Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates from?

Birth and Deaths Certificates
can usually be obtained from the Register office where the event took place
providing you know the year of the event.
(the registrar should search for a year or so either side of the date for you)
It is worth asking the registrar if they are prepared to look for a Marriage event,
some are so good they have indexed them on computer I know that Birmingham and Braintree Essex have.
Some Registrars service are abysmal and even a birth request I recently sent for resulted in a wait of
two weeks at one and three weeks at another and yet the Braintree registrar gave me certificates by return of post.

Some register offices now take credit cards and will do a service over the phone.
So ask! Remember to
send £7.00 and a S.S.A.E. with postal applications.

The GRO, P O Box 2, Southport, Merseyside, PR8 2HH England

They will now take orders over the phone

+44 (0)870 243 77 88 and by email

with payment by credit card, delivery can take five to ten working days.

Searches by them are expensive
but if you have the codes (that we can supply) the charge is then a modest £7.00 by email.

For Marriage Certificates and others that the registrars are unable to find I use a firm called
S&D
Services, Sandra or Dave go to the London officers each week

http://www.snd.clara.net

Certificates ordered on a Monday are usually back with me by Saturday the same week but allow 10 days.

I also have the whole GRO (St Catherine's index) of Births, Deaths and Marriages
from 1837 to 1992 on microfiche and will be prepared to do free searches of the index
for Joslin's and their related families.

If you do need me to search the indexes for you then give me as much data as you have about
the person you are looking for,
If you have found them in a census,
If you know a mothers maiden name,
If you know of siblings etc,
then please pass the data on as it can all help to locate your lost relative,
it can all save me a lot of valuable time.
