WALTER JOSLIN
Born 1842 England - Died1937 Brazil
|
 |
Until 2001 I had no idea that we had lots of distant Joslin relations
in South America,
Despite all my research over fifteen years I hadn't been able to trace what had
happened to
Walter JOSLIN born 1842 at Cressing, Essex. England and
Sarah Ann ALLEN born 1845 at Rusthall, Kent. England
I had
their birth and marriage certificates and some census data.
They had both vanished from my data base around 1870.
Following up an e-mail enquiry from Brazil;
The pieces of a large jig-saw were
soon falling into place.
Walter Joslin my BK# 20819 was a bricklayer
by occupation,
he had emigrated to Brazil in the late1860's
and then returned back
to Kent for his wife and two children,
and then settled in Brazil for the rest of his
life,
Walter died at Arauccaria Parana on 25th September 1937 aged 94 years,
he had by then become a well known bridge builder in Brazil
and his family have
prospered in the area to the present day,
we have lots of Portuguese speaking
Joslin's in South America
all descended from the small village of Cressing in Essex, England.
My contact is:

Adélia Maria Woellner
Granddaughter
of Walter Joslin
who lives in Parana a beautiful part of Brazil and
is a fine poet,
With her permission I will place some of her work on this page
in the near future.
Adélia is a 'Josselin Society'
member
The first photograph below shows
Walter and Sarah with their family in
Brazil, the children are:
Olympia, Caroline, Walter, Ernest, Edith, Sidney and Helena. (old photos
from Adélia in Brazil)

The second photograph above shows
Walter and Sarah with their
married children and grand children
Walter and Sarah's first two children Frederick William and Eliza
Sophia
were born in the Tunbridge area of England,
they died in England before
the family emigrated to Brazil.
Since I have been corresponding with
Adélia, I have received a book of her published poetry each year

the following piece of poetry was sent to me in July 2002
"RITUAL"
With sublime reverence,
the cherubim's lit the fire
on the altar of eternity,
in order to illuminate
the night of the world.
Thankful and receptive,
the sky put on
its gorgeous mantle of sparks. |
"RITUAL"
Os querubins,
em sublime reverência,
acenderam o fogo
no altar da eternidade,
para iluminar
a noite do mundo.
Receptivo,
o céu
engalanou-se de fagulhas. |
All the very best to you and Margaret.
Love
Adélia
Adelia's native language is Portuguese,
she is desperate to learn the English
language and hopes for a future visit to Cressing in England
to see the
village that her ancestors came from,
and
also to meet her distant cousins that she
has found on the world wide web.

Above is a further photograph of Walter Joslin in late life,
along with a
present day photograph of Cressing Church in Essex England,
It was here that Walter was baptised on the 25th day of September 1842
the seventh son of John and Jane Joslin nee Richards of Hawbush Green.
The long story of how Walter came to settle in Brazil and all of his
extensive
family will follow soon; when I have translated it from Portuguese!!
